Installing Xsight

1. Download the Xsight tar.gz file (right click the link on the download page and save to disk)
2. Login as root - You must be root to install Xsight
3. cp xsight.tar.gz /tmp
4. cd /tmp
5. tar xzf xsight.tar.gz
6. cd xsight
7. Edit the CONFIG file to define the correct usernames and paths for your system (the defaults will normally be OK)
8. ./INSTALL

You should now be able to access the Xsight splash page from a browser, eg http://myserver/xsight. That's it! Everything else is done from the browser.

To upgrade to a newer version of Xsight, follow the same steps as for installation. The upgrade will preserve your existing data. If you wish to completely uninstall Xsight first, simply remove the xsight directory and its contents from wherever you installed it (see the CONFIG file).

Note that changes to the major version number (eg 4.x to 5.x) are NOT backwards compatible. Contact me for advice on major upgrades if you need to preserve existing data.
